BIOCHAR

Biochar is a a carbon-rich material produced by heating organic waste in a low-oxygen environment, a process known as pyrolysis. Highly valued for its ability to enhance soil fertility, improve water retention, and store carbon, biochar benefits both farmers and the environment. By incorporating biochar into often depleted, acidic agricultural soil, we help create healthier crops, bury carbon in the soil for hundreds of years or more and promote a circular economy by turning agricultural waste into a valuable resource. BIOMASS PELLETS

Pellets are a compact, cylindrical fuel created from compressed organic materials like agricultural residues or sawdust. They are energy dense, clean burning and renewable – an excellent alternative to traditional fuels like firewood, charcoal or heating oil. Used in conjunction with an efficient gasifier cookstove such as the MimiMoto, pellets achieve savings of over 50% for the user, while drastically improving household air quality. Industrial boiler users can benefit from similar savings versus traditional fuel choices.

BIOMASS BRIQUETTES

Briquettes are compressed blocks of biomass used as an efficient and eco-friendly fuel source. Made from materials such as agricultural residues and wood waste, briquettes are sustainable alternative to traditional fuel sources. Their high energy density and slow-burning characteristics make them ideal for heating, drying, institutional cooking, and industrial energy applications.

BUILT-IN MIMIMOTO

COOKSTOVES in partnership with MimiMoto

Mimi Moto is the ultimate cookstove, specially designed to burn pellets made from locally available biomass – such as wood or agricultural residues – in a very clean and efficient way. When Mimi Moto stove is used with WICCARE pellets, the emissions easily comply with the WHO’s stringent air quality guidelines. The MimiMoto is available as a standalone household cookstove and in the new ‘Build-in’ format, allowing institutions, hotels and eateries to retrofit their cooktops and benefit from savings of over 50% compared to Charcoal, LPG or firewood.

BIOCHAR COMPOST BLEND

We take our biochar and supercharge it! Regular biochar is like a sponge, with lots of pores to hold things, but supercharged biochar is like a sponge that’s already been soaked in a nutrient-rich solution. We mix our biochar with nutrient-rich compost. The biochar’s porous structure allows it to absorb and hold onto these nutrients.

Why is supercharged biochar beneficial?

  1. Improved Nutrient Retention:The charged biochar acts as a slow-release fertiliser, preventing nutrients from leaching out of the soil and making them available to plants over time.
  2. Enhanced Soil Fertility:The added microbes and nutrients boost the overall fertility of the soil and biochar boosts the pH, leading to healthier plant growth.
  3. Increased Water Holding Capacity:Biochar can hold a significant amount of water, which is especially beneficial in dry climates and can reduce nutrient leaching.
  4. Stimulated Root Growth:The improved soil structure and nutrient availability promote stronger root development in plants.

DECARBONISED CONSTRUCTION MATERIALS

Biochar and Bio-Oil (the sticky, tar-like by-product of Biochar production) can be used as partial replacers for common construction staples such as cement and asphalt, without impacting performance. Since these products have a high and hard to abate carbon emissions profile, incorporating even small amounts of negative emissions products like biochar and bio-oil has been calculated to fully offset the carbon footprint of concrete and asphalt. WICCARE partners with producers to help them in their decarbonisation journey.

BIOGAS AND BIOMETHANE

WICCARE partners with established Anaerobic Digestion (AD) technology providers to treat the wet organic fraction of market and municipal waste streams in order to reduce the burden on landfill. We upgrade the resulting biogas into bottled biomethane, which is a renewable alternative to LPG. The process also yields a nutrient-rich liquid digestate, which we incorporate into our biochar compost blends.

COLD STORAGE SOLUTIONS

WICCARE seeks to maximise the productive use of renewable energy from waste. One such use, and one which is sorely lacking in the region, is Cold Storage for perishable goods. WICCARE has access to a range of innovative solutions, which can often use our products to power the cooling process. If a Hub is located near an agricultural produce aggregation centre (such as a large food market), co-siting the Cold Store is a viable solution. If the need is further away, we can design, build and operate a Pay As You Go (PAYG) cold store, powered by our biomass-derived fuels.
